Hunger ren|Double breasted jacket|HRCT002
Made from deadstock Xiangyunsha (silk) with an uneven texture, where the mud-dyed brown has faded beautifully over many years. To be used as outerwear, we've opted for a rare, thick Xiangyunsha fabric. As you wear it, the brown surface (mud dye) will gradually fade in areas with high friction, revealing the orange (dioscorea dye) layer beneath. This is a special fabric that allows you to experience "aging" as it deepens in character over time. The lining is made of unbleached organic cotton. Collar
・Xiangyunsha (gambiered Canton gauze)
A traditional high-grade silk fabric originating from Guangdong Province, China.
Its origins date back to the Ming Dynasty in the 14th-17th centuries, and it was favored by the upper classes from the Qing Dynasty to the Republican era. This unique fabric is made by weaving fine raw silk and then finishing it with a traditional technique called "dioscorea dyeing." First, it is repeatedly dyed with a natural dye extracted from dioscorea roots, and then river mud from the Pearl River basin is applied, creating a deep color and unique luster through a chemical reaction between iron and tannic acid. Through this complex dyeing process, a flexible, durable, and distinctive fabric is produced, whose texture improves with age. Due to its rarity and traditional manufacturing method, it is currently protected as an important intangible cultural heritage.
・Deadstock Xiangyunsha
These are items from stock manufactured several decades ago, possessing characteristics different from modern new products.
Firstly, the blend of natural dyes and dyeing techniques used by artisans at the time were subtly different, resulting in a depth of color that is difficult to reproduce today. Furthermore, having been stored for many years, they have undergone natural aging, resulting in a softer and more supple texture. Especially deadstock from the 1950s-70s often used higher quality raw silk than is available today, offering superior luster and strength. They are more valuable than modern products and are particularly prized by collectors and traditional craft enthusiasts.
